July 22 Update

As the summer months stretch on, COVID case counts for the Powell River Local Health Area (includes City of Powell River, qathet Regional District (minus Lasqueti), and Tla’amin Nation) remain at zero. At the same time, vaccination rates continue to slowly increase; however, there is still room for improvement. Local health officials are planning to offer more flexible options and pop-up clinics around the community in August to help make vaccines more accessible, and encourage eligible people to get vaccinated.

“Our vaccination numbers in Powell River are good,” says Mélie de Champlain, Vancouver Coastal Health Director for Powell River. “But compared to vaccination rates in the rest of the province we are low, especially when it come to the 12-40 age group. In the coming weeks it will be easier than ever to get vaccinated and we encourage everyone who is eligible to come out, get vaccinated, and help bring the pandemic to an end.”

Local Vaccination Rates

As of Wednesday, July 21 our local vaccination rates (for people who have received at least one dose) were:

  • 85% of adults 50+
  • 62% of adults 18-49
  • 77% of adults 18+
  • 76% of people 12+

As of Tuesday, July 20, 2021, 80% of eligible people 12 and older in B.C. have received their first dose of COVID-19 vaccine and 54% have received their second dose. Pop-Up Vaccine Clinics

In August the local vaccination clinic schedule will change slightly to offer more flexibility and accessibility, in the hopes of encouraging all those who are eligible to get vaccinated.

From 8:30 am – 4:30 pm on Tuesdays and Wednesdays anyone over the age of 12 will be able to book an appointment or drop-in to the Complex Clinic, located on the upper floor of the Powell River Recreation Complex, for their first dose. Those who have been notified that they are eligible for their second dose can also book or drop in.

On Thursdays and Fridays in August pop-up clinics will be offered in a variety of locations in Powell River and the surrounding areas. Watch our Facebook and Instagram pages for information about these clinics throughout August!

If You Have Symptoms…Please Get Tested!

If you have symptoms of COVID-19 it is still important that you get tested. The COVID virus and its variants are still circulating in our province, and health officials have warned that we may see an increase in cases as B.C. opens up to travellers. To stay on top of the virus we need to catch it as early as possible, before it has the chance to spread.

The Medical Clinic Associates on Joyce Avenue offers COVID testing Monday through Friday, with the exception of stat holidays. To request an appointment please fill out the form at prcomplexclinic.com.

This is the preferred method of booking. However, if you are not able to book online you can call 604-485-3572 between 9 and 11 am on weekdays.

COVID testing is also being done at the Emergency Room at the Powell River General Hospital. People with severe symptoms, or those needing a test outside Medical Clinic Associates hours (listed above) should seek a test at this location.
